The hard transition between the clear to ND element of the filter is designed to allow you to have control over the horizon line with seamless transitions. The main use of Hard GND filters is for seascape or other situations where you have a level horizon line. If you shoot on the coast, this is a must have filter type.

A graduated filter allows you to control and balance high light variants in a scene.
